C/O Cheap Monday 2018

In Sweden alone, thousands of t-shirts are thrown away each year, Cheap Monday wondered: why not use them? In this collection, the brand highlights unexplored sources to creating new garments through the upcycling of workwear. Pieces which have become worthless for their primary purpose are still full of value!

The latest edition of C/O Cheap Monday is therefore about shifting the context – from workwear to fashion – around an existing piece of clothing, thereby saving these garments from going to waste. Furthermore, the process saves on virgin materials, climate emissions, water and chemical use. The ambition is to expand the vision around how to recycle clothes while asking one’s self: what other unvalued sources are there out there?

The capsule collection consists of jackets, work chinos, tees, sweats and a shopper bag, all made from discarded workwear with the right, sought-after, worn look. Removed patches, holes and discolouration makes each garment unique.
“To constantly work towards a more sustainable future is very important to us. With this C/O Cheap Monday collection we discovered a significant source of garments that would otherwise be discarded as trash. Since the garments are all the same design, it makes this project scalable which is the unique part of it. To give these products a new life feels great, as each garment already carries a lot of history.” – says Carl Malmgren, Creative Director at Cheap Monday.Списание за текстил, облекло, кожи и технологии

The project is initiated by Cheap Monday together with Re:Textile, a project within Science Park Borås in Sweden which focuses on developing structures for circular processes and redesign in the textile industry. The goal is to create new business opportunities and use less planetary resources. www.retextile.se

The capsule collection will be available on www.cheapmonday.com and at selected retailers from October 2nd, 2018.

ABOUT C/O CHEAP MONDAY

C/O Cheap Monday – read “Care of Cheap Monday” – is a Sustainability Lab. Released once a year, the capsule collection is where the brand tests & explores the possibilities of new materials and processes to create more sustainable products. When a new technique proves successful Cheap Monday then incorporates it to the main collection. For instance, recycled cotton from post-consumer waste first appeared in the 2017 edition of C/O Cheap Monday and is now used in the main denim line.

short documentary

To support the release of C/O Cheap Monday 2018, the brand produced a short documentary showcasing the entire process including first-hand insights from Carl Malmgren as well as several key actors of the project.
