The footwear company Joaquim José Heitor, responsible for the JJ Heitor brand, has just received ISO 14001 – Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certification. According to the company, this certification allows it “to demonstrate the commitment of companies to sustainable management, ensuring greater control of environmental issues while promoting and sustaining the improvement of environmental performance.”
The belief that the future will involve the implementation of sustainable processes has led JJ Heitor to choose to implement an environmental management system in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard and to obtain the system’s certification. This decision meets the concerns of some of its most important customers regarding social responsibility, particularly the environment.
The performance base for the environmental management system is its full compliance with legal and clients’ environmental requirements, seeking to identify, starting from that base, its environmental aspects and to define methods for their control and monitoring.
The ISO 14001 standard was used as a tool to rethink the way the company manages its environmental aspects, considering the product’s life cycle. The implemented system allows consistent and systematic action, based on the monitoring of performance indicators that foster continuous improvement.
Certification was obtained after a successful audit conducted by SGS at the end of March 2021.
