THE APPAREL AND FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY CALLS ON SENATE COMMITTEE TO APPROVE THE OCEAN SHIPPING REFORM ACT
The American Apparel & Footwear Association continued its advocacy for the Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022, urging members of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee to approve this important measure.
“This bipartisan bill will bolster the Federal Maritime Commission, strengthen the overseas supply chain, and ensure fairness in the global ocean shipping industry,” wrote American Apparel & Footwear Association President and CEO Steve Lamar. “Our industry has been hit hard by the shipping crisis. Long delays, contract breaches, price gouging and excessive and unjust fees by carriers, and lack of access to equipment to move our product have resulted in huge delays and exorbitant costs that have translated into surging inflation that threatens our economic recovery.”
The Ocean Shipping Reform Act is a key priority for the apparel and footwear industry, which has experienced significant challenges due to the shipping crisis. Today’s letter can be viewed here. AAFA also sent a “Vote Yes” letter to House members to include the bill in the America COMPETES Act in February
